KATE WITHSTANDLEY
I have always been fascinated by art in all its forms. I studied art history at uni and although I found it elitist and narrow-minded, it helped to guide me by showing me what I know I dislike – namely the narrow end of the art establishment! This revelation drew me more towards other artists, towards education, and exploration, as well as enjoyment and community cohesion. I believe that art is valid in all its forms; as an aesthetic, a form of expression and as a means of communication and collaboration. As well as trying to link artists and promote the arts locally, I produce a variety of artworks – I mainly work in photography or abstract pen and ink/watercolour illustrations but have dabbled recently in oils and collage. I hope to start scaling up from small sketchbook size to large canvas pieces and to explore how this might be applied to my improvisational process of working.
