I’m Shirley, and I am an artist!

What brought me to DAN was my interest in connecting with local creatives, something that I had been longing to find for many years. But I was not an “artist”, I just wanted to be involved in supporting and promoting Art in the community.

The creative thing I spoke about at my first meeting was my love of making my own clothes and having a go at many crafts over the years. However, being part of the group has encouraged me to have the confidence to explore my own art again, something I had not done since my A-levels many years ago.

Since then I have been developing my style of abstract watercolours and how to create colours layers and textures in a loose style. It is an ongoing learning curve! I have also been part of a public exhibition, something that absolutely petrified me, but I was so proud to have done it.
